A more human approach to business.
Practical, solutions-driven support for your business, since 1991. Barbaras Development Inc. owns and operates DirecTex and DirecSource.
Where we started.
Barbaras Development Inc. was established in 1991 in Southern California, supplying raw materials to the industrial sewing sector. Webbing, fabric, thread, buckles and zippers, delivered to US factories just in time and at great value. A factory that runs out of webbing at two in the afternoon is not interested in explanations, so we learned early to be direct, to be on time and to answer the phone. That components business became DirecTex.
In 2004 our customers changed what they asked of us. Brands wanted to focus on product innovation and sales and have someone they trusted own the making. We opened in Hong Kong, built a network of audited factories across Asia and began managing development, tooling, compliance and production on their behalf. That became DirecSource.
By 2011 the finished goods needed somewhere to go, so we built the last mile as well: five US warehouses, EDI into the major retailers and direct-to-consumer fulfilment. Today the network runs to more than 650 verified factories in 9 countries, our own plants in Mexico and Cambodia, and warehouses on both sides of the Pacific.
Two operating divisions, one company. DirecTex for components and materials. DirecSource for sourcing, development and logistics. BDI holds them together and manages every aspect of development and supply chain on a global basis.
Three decades, one direction.

Practical. Solutions driven.
Direct
We work with the factories, not through distributors. Fewer hands means fewer markups, fewer delays and fewer places for the truth to get lost.
On time
Just in time was our first business model. It still is. Vendor-managed inventory and point-to-point fulfilment are how we keep it.
Transparent
Full transparency at every step. Our people are in the factories with inspection tools that capture data our customers can see.
Human
We work with small and large companies alike, and we choose vendors on aligned values, not the lowest price. Relationships that run on trust run without friction.
Leadership.
